چکیده

We developed two new EOS additions to the TOUGH+ family of codes, the RealGasH2O and RealGas. The RealGasH2O EOS option describes the non-isothermal two-phase flow of water and a real gas mixture in a gas reservoir (including a tight/shale gas one). The gas mixture is treated as either a single-pseudocomponent having a fixed composition, or as a multicomponent system composed of up to 9 individual real gases. The RealGas option has the same general capabilities, but does not include water, thus describing a single-phase, drygas system. The capabilities of two codes include: coupled flow and thermal effects in porous and/or fractured media, real gas behavior, inertial (Klinkenberg) effects, full micro-flow treatment, Darcy and non-Darcy flow through the matrix and fractures of fractured media, gas sorption onto the grains of the porous media, etc. The codes are verified against available analytical and semi-analytical solutions. Their capabilities are demonstrated in a series of problems of increasing complexity, ranging from isothermal flow in simpler 1D and 2D conventional gas reservoirs, to non-isothermal gas flow in 3D fractured shale gas reservoirs involving 4 types of fractures, micro-flow, non-Darcy flow and gas composition changes during production.

Numerical simulation of a three-layered radiant porous heat exchanger including lattice Boltzmann simulation of fluid flow

This paper deals with the hydrodynamic and thermal analysis of a new type of porous heat exchanger (PHE). This system operates based on energy conversion between gas enthalpy and thermal radiation. The proposed PHE has one high temperature (HT) and two heat recovery (HR1 and HR2) sections. In HT section, the enthalpy of flowing high temperature gas flow that is converted to thermal radiation em...

Investigation of influential factors on well temperature for gas-liquid two-phase flow in under-balanced drilling operation

Analysis of the drilling fluid temperature due to heat transfer of drilling fluid with the formation in under-balanced drilling operation is the main objective of this study. Gas-liquid two-phase flow model considering thermal interaction with the formation is used to numerically simulate a well with real dimensions. In the present study, the continuity, momentum, and energy equations are devel...

Numerical study of fluid flow and heat transfer in a gas-tank water heater

Influence of a vent hood at the exit of exhaust flue gas and flue baffles in the firetube on the temperature and flow fields of a gas tank water heater, as well as thestructure and amount of heat transferred to the water tank has been studiednumerically using two-dimensional steady state finite element simulation.Observations show that without a vent hood, there is a downward gas flow in theflu...

Simulation of a Box Annealing Unit

In this paper the heating process in a box annealing unit is simulated and the effect of various parameters involved in the process is examined. For this purpose, the full Naiver-Stokes equations along with the standard k- turbulence model are solved in the fluid region using the finite volume approach. In the solid area the conduction heat transfer equation is employed using approporate surfac...

Simulation of gas-liquid two phase flow in upriser pipe of gas-lift systems

Gas-lift pumps are devices for lifting liquid phase incorporating the gas phase to be injected in the bottom of liquid column. They are widely used in various industrial applications such as oil extracting in petroleum industries. Gas-liquid flow being the main part of the flow through these systems, flowing in vertical pipes of gas-lift pumps has different regimes namely bubbly, slug, chur...
